Voice messages and voice calls
These are separate features. A voice message converts a written reply into a clip you can play back; nearly every companion app includes it on paid plans, usually with a few voices per character. A voice call is a live conversation in both directions, fast enough that you can cut in; only a handful of platforms offer it, and minutes are normally rationed. If voice is why you're paying, try the exact voice of the character you care about, because the gap between a strong and a weak voice model is wider than the gap between two text models.
Image generation
Companion apps create pictures of whichever character you're talking to and keep the face the same from image to image. Character-library platforms often have no images at all, or produce generic artwork. Three factors decide whether pictures are worth the money: consistency (is it still recognisably her), control (can you set the scene in words) and cost (credits per picture or a daily cap). Image generation is usually the main thing the pricier tiers are selling.

A handful of platforms make short character clips lasting a few seconds. Quality is climbing quickly, but it costs more per use than any other feature. For now, see it as an extra rather than the reason to pick a platform.
